India’s tourism landscape is witnessing a significant shift as Thiruvananthapuram has been named the country’s fastest-growing international travel destination, according to Agoda’s 2025 New Horizons rankings. The report, which analyses accommodation booking trends across Asia, highlights destinations experiencing the strongest growth in inbound and outbound travel demand.

Thiruvananthapuram, the coastal capital of Kerala, recorded a remarkable rise in international interest, climbing from 33rd to 22nd position in just one year. The city’s growing popularity is attributed to its distinctive blend of pristine beaches, lush landscapes, wellness retreats, and rich cultural heritage. From historic temples and classical art forms to serene backwaters and hill escapes, Thiruvananthapuram offers a holistic travel experience that resonates strongly with global travellers seeking authenticity and tranquillity. Its rise also strengthens Kerala’s positioning as a premium leisure, wellness, and emerging M.I.C.E destination.

On the domestic front, Indore has emerged as a fast-rising urban hotspot. Ranked among India’s top domestic growth destinations, Indore moved up seven places to secure the 28th position in 2025. Known for its vibrant street food culture, heritage landmarks, and award-winning cleanliness initiatives, the city is increasingly attracting business and leisure travellers alike, making it relevant for conferences, exhibitions, and corporate travel.

The report also highlights outbound travel trends, with Almaty gaining popularity among Indian travellers. Its scenic mountain backdrop, adventure tourism offerings, and improved air connectivity have helped it climb 12 positions year-on-year.

Agoda’s findings underline a broader shift toward experiential, culturally rich, and less-commercialised destinations across Asia. For India, the rise of cities like Thiruvananthapuram and Indore signals growing global confidence in the country’s tourism and M.I.C.E potential, positioning Indian destinations as key players in the evolving international travel ecosystem.
