The Government of Telangana announced comprehensive details and confirmed strategic partnerships to advance the goals set forth in the Telangana Tourism Policy 2025–2030. This policy, which officially came into effect on March 17, 2025, establishes a long-term vision to position the state among the top five in India for both domestic and international tourist arrivals by the end of the decade. The plan focuses on enhancing the tourism sector’s contribution to the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) to 10% or higher.
In order to accomplish these goals, the state hopes to attract ₹15,000 crore in new investments into the tourism industry over the course of the next five years, which is expected to create an additional 300,000 jobs. At a recent Hyderabad Tourism Conclave, the government affirmed the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for 30 significant projects, which constitute the initial portion of this anticipated investment. Private sector investments and a variety of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models will power these initiatives.
One of the strategy’s main pillars is the creation of 27 Special Tourism Areas (STAs), which span a variety of markets like spiritual circuits, heritage sites, eco-tourist destinations, and wellness centers. Significant infrastructure improvements are required by the policy, including the creation of new connectivity points close to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and the growth of river-based tourism along the Godavari and Krishna rivers. With the creation of specialized Tourist Police units and the application of a Tourism Friendly Index (TFI) to standardize safety protocols, especially for female travelers, safety and security continue to be top priorities. To maintain Telangana’s position as a top travel destination, the policy seeks to promote a professionally managed and sustainable environment for the MICE, adventure, and medical & wellness sectors.
