Sri Lanka Tourism recently wrapped up a series of promotional roadshows in Madurai, Coimbatore, and Chennai on 6th, 8th, and 10th October 2025, highlighting the island nation’s diverse tourism offerings to Indian travellers. The events attracted over 400 travel agents and tour operators, with a delegation of 39 Sri Lankan stakeholders representing hotels, resorts, DMCs (leisure and MICE), and tour operators.
The roadshows, organized jointly by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) and the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB), aimed to position Sri Lanka as a year-round destination for all segments of tourists while strengthening bilateral ties with India. Each city witnessed B2B interactions between Sri Lankan and Indian industry professionals, fostering opportunities for collaborations and partnerships across the tourism and MICE sectors. Media representatives were also present, ensuring widespread coverage of Sri Lanka’s offerings.
Sri Lanka continues to witness record-breaking tourism growth from India, which remains its top source market. From January to September 2025, the country welcomed 1,725,494 tourists, including 375,292 visitors from India, accounting for 22% of total arrivals. The nation’s tourism earnings surpassed USD 2.3 billion by August 2025. Connectivity between the two countries is robust, with SriLankan Airlines operating 88 flights connecting nine Indian cities, complemented by services from Indigo and Air India.
Adding a cultural touch, the roadshows featured performances by a Sri Lankan dance troupe, showcasing the island’s rich heritage and vibrant traditions. Attendees were introduced to Sri Lanka’s pristine beaches, ancient temples, scenic landscapes, and world-class hospitality, reinforcing the destination’s appeal and encouraging repeat visits.
SLTPB, the official government agency for tourism marketing, and SLCB, the lead body promoting MICE tourism, operate under the Ministry of Foreign Employment, Foreign Affairs & Tourism. Both organizations aim to enhance Sri Lanka’s profile as a premier destination for leisure and corporate travel in South Asia.
Through these strategic roadshows and promotional activities, Sri Lanka Tourism underscores its commitment to nurturing strong ties with India, encouraging travel, and presenting the island nation as a top choice for leisure, culture, and business tourism.
