The second edition of the Kashmir Marathon concluded on November 2, 2025, in Srinagar, drawing praise from Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who stated that the event is set to become a major economic catalyst for the Union Territory’s tourism sector.
The J&K Tourism Department organized the international running event, which included a half marathon (21 km) and a full marathon (42 km). A diverse group of 1,100 runners from 27 Indian states and Union Territories as well as 11 foreign nations participated in the races. During the felicitation ceremony, which was attended by prominent figures including film actor Suniel Shetty, the LG noted the powerful spirit of the runners, calling it a testament to the event’s power to foster unity and discipline.
LG Sinha was optimistic about the marathon’s increasing national prominence. He said, “Within two years of its launch, the Kashmir Marathon has become one of the most prestigious running tournaments in the country,” and that it has inspired a new generation of runners to be physically fit while also successfully instilling a sense of pride and passion among the locals.
Beyond the athletic competition, in which Kenyan athletes prominently won numerous top honors, the event is seen as a significant venue for economic outreach and cultural diplomacy. The Lieutenant Governor urged the public to project the region’s invaluable cultural heritage, arts, handicrafts, and handlooms onto the international stage in order to capitalize on the international spotlight and highlight J&K’s potential.
The Kashmir Marathon’s successful execution solidifies the area’s developing standing as a safe and alluring sports tourism destination, generating substantial social and economic benefits for nearby communities. The occasion bolsters the drive for increased progress and revitalized national and international cooperation with the Union Territory.
