India’s budget carrier IndiGo has partnered with the Digi Yatra Foundation to transform the airport journey into a fully digital, contactless experience. This collaboration allows passengers to share their boarding passes directly from the IndiGo mobile app into the Digi Yatra ecosystem after completing web check-in, simplifying the travel process.
By clicking the “Share with Digi Yatra” option within the IndiGo app, flyers can bypass manually scanning printed or digital boarding passes, reducing steps, delays, and physical contact. The onboarding leverages a Self‑Sovereign Identity (SSI) framework with facial-biometric authentication to ensure secure, contactless passenger processing, while prioritising user consent and privacy.
For passengers, this integration promises a faster, smoother airport experience, particularly during peak travel hours. For IndiGo, the initiative supports the airline’s focus on innovation to enhance convenience and operational efficiency. Neetan Chopra, Chief Digital & Information Officer of IndiGo, highlighted the airline’s commitment to making air travel simpler, faster, and more enjoyable.
For Digi Yatra, the partnership represents a significant milestone in advancing paperless, biometric-enabled air travel across India. CEO Suresh Khadakbhavi noted that the alliance will facilitate contactless check-in and boarding experiences at scale, marking an important step toward wider adoption.
This initiative is part of India’s broader effort to digitise aviation infrastructure. Digi Yatra is already operational at several airports nationwide, with more set to implement the system soon. As digital boarding and biometric verification become increasingly common, IndiGo positions itself as a leading airline embracing next-generation airport experiences.
In summary, the IndiGo–Digi Yatra collaboration reflects both the airline’s and India’s aviation sector’s commitment to reducing operational bottlenecks and improving passenger satisfaction. By combining technology, convenience, and security, the partnership sets the stage for a more seamless, efficient, and tech-driven era of air travel in India.
