The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) – India’s largest and most renowned hospitality company – has signed an agreement to develop a new Taj hotel in Mohali, Punjab, marking a strategic expansion within one of North India’s fastest-growing commercial and residential hubs. The announcement was made public in early January as IHCL continues to accelerate its growth and premium footprint across key Indian cities.
The upcoming property, named Taj Mohali, is a greenfield development project that will feature 225 luxury rooms offering uninterrupted views of the surrounding greenery. Designed to cater to both leisure and business travellers, the hotel will showcase a blend of world-class hospitality, leisure facilities, and extensive event spaces, enhancing Mohali’s position as a prime destination for tourism, business travel, and social events.
Taj Mohali’s facilities are planned to include multiple dining options, including an all-day dining restaurant, a specialty restaurant, and a bar offering diverse culinary experiences. For wellness and recreation, the hotel will house a swimming pool, a gym, a health club, and the signature Taj J Wellness Circle – a holistic wellness concept known for combining fitness and relaxation offerings.
A standout feature of the project is its expansive event space, with the hotel set to offer more than 26,000 square feet of banqueting and meeting facilities. This significant capacity positions Taj Mohali as a leading choice for weddings, corporate events, conferences, and social gatherings in the region, where demand for premium event venues continues to grow alongside the city’s economic development.
The strategic expansion into Mohali aligns with IHCL’s broader vision of deepening its presence in high-potential markets. Ms. Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President – Real Estate & Development at IHCL, has previously highlighted that emerging urban and commercial centres like Mohali represent key growth markets, particularly as preferences evolve for premium hospitality offerings beyond traditional metropolitan destinations.
Punjab’s hospitality landscape is undergoing a transformation, driven by increased business activity, growing leisure tourism, and rising demand for premium staycations and event facilities. The addition of Taj Mohali builds on IHCL’s established footprint in the state, where the company operates a number of properties and continues to pursue further expansions.
With Taj Mohali, IHCL aims to bring its legacy of luxury, world-class service standards, and integrated hospitality experiences to Mohali, delivering elevated offerings that support the city’s continued growth as a vibrant, multi-segment destination for travellers and event organisers alike.
