The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has welcomed the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) as a Destination Partner, marking a significant step in strengthening Uganda’s presence in the global tourism landscape. This partnership is expected to enhance collaboration, innovation, and sustainable development across the travel and tourism sector.
The Uganda Tourism Board, headquartered in Kampala, plays a central role in promoting and marketing Uganda as a preferred destination. Beyond destination marketing, UTB is responsible for developing, coordinating, and regulating the country’s tourism sector. It works closely with regional tourism clusters and local stakeholders to showcase Uganda’s diverse offerings, including its rich wildlife, vibrant cultural heritage, adventure tourism, and community-based experiences.
Through international trade fairs, strategic partnerships, and global campaigns, UTB has been actively positioning Uganda on the world stage. By joining WTTC as a Destination Partner, the organisation gains access to a powerful global platform that connects leading travel and tourism stakeholders, enabling knowledge exchange and collaborative growth opportunities.
Welcoming the partnership, Gloria Guevar, WTTC President & CEO, highlighted Uganda’s unique tourism appeal, emphasising its extraordinary biodiversity and cultural richness. She noted that WTTC looks forward to working closely with UTB to support sustainable tourism growth and strengthen Uganda’s position as a leading destination in Africa and beyond.
Echoing this sentiment, Juliana Kagwa, CEO of Uganda Tourism Board, described the partnership as a milestone for Uganda’s global tourism ambitions. She stated that joining WTTC will amplify Uganda’s voice in the international tourism ecosystem while fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing to enhance competitiveness and sustainability.
As a Destination Partner, UTB will contribute to WTTC’s broader mission of driving inclusive and sustainable growth in global tourism. With WTTC representing over 200 CEOs and leaders from the world’s top travel companies, this collaboration positions Uganda to further expand its global reach and attract international travellers.
The partnership underscores Uganda’s commitment to strengthening its tourism sector while reinforcing its identity as a must-visit destination on the global map.
